Joshua Proctor - Eagle Project Successfully Completed

Congratulations to Joshua Proctor on completing his Eagle Project last Saturday, November 7, 2009.  United Holy Trinity Methodist Church benefited from the project as it was specifically intended to do so.  The project, which was to re-stripe the main church parking lot, was organized and planned by both Joshua and his father, David Proctor, for close to a year. A job well done!

E-mailed 11/11/09 - Recharter process underway

Hello Everyone,

The Troop's '09-'10 Recharter process has begun and will close on November 20. The recharter process means that it is time to re-register your Scout and Adult Volunteers for the next 12 months. If you are a current Adult Volunteer, this is the time to re-evaluate your position and make changes to another position if you like. Committee Members are especially asked to re-evalaute your roles as constant contact, commitment and response time to committee issues, board of review sessions and to the Committee Chairman are essential.

Specific details, including dollar amounts, will go out either by e-mail or in person at this Friday night's meeting. The payment schedule does not appear to have changed in regards to Recharter Fees, Boy's Life Costs and Troop Fees. Please be prepared to pay your fees as soon as possible. If you cannot attend the meeting in order to make the payments, please contact Tina Nichols to make arrangments to have the payments in before November 20.
I apologize for not having the dollar amounts at this time. Tina, Roger and I are working on ensuring that the payment schedule has not changed before publishing it.
Personal checks may be made out to Troop 512.

Thank you,

Veronica Tijerina

E-MAILED TO TROOP 9/9/09

Hi Troop 512,

This is a reminder that the Troop now meets on Friday nights so you're free tomorrow night. Yay!

Notes:

* Be sure to welcome Daniel Toohey, and his family, the next time you see them. Daniel has officially joined our troop. Please add his dad's e-mail to your troop address book. wadelandry@hotmail.com

* Isaac called and/or e-mailed everyone last Monday to get confirmations for the September 18-20 camping trip. If you have not returned the call, please do so right away. The reservation fee is waiting to be sent out!

* For those attending the camping trip, the final payment is due by this Friday night. $12/person. Tina will not be on site so I will collect the payments for her.

* Tina and Roger have been updating Scout Accounts. Everything is now up to date. If you have any Treasury questions or receipts, please contact Tina directly. On that note, Tina will have a Scout Account Statement prepared for each Scout this Friday night. Some Scouts have not completed paying their $50 fee that went into effect last year. We are asking that this please be completed in full by the end of this month. If you need us to work with you on this, you must contact Tina directly as soon as possible.

* The meeting with Pastor Cortinas went very well last night. The Fellowship Hall is booked so often that it is not feasible to make that the permanent Troop Meeting Room. Instead, Room # 5 is available and somewhat removed from the Cub Scout area. We'll try it out and see how it works out for everyone.

Have a blessed day! See you all on Friday night.

Message E-mailed to all Troop on 9/2/09

Roger has asked me to send this reminder out to everyone in Troop 512:

Reminder, the troop has their weekly meeting at 6:30 pm tomorrow night. Being that Roger is Scoutmaster and there is a renewed attempt at holding separate Boy Scout Roundtables, he also needs to attend that meeting which takes place virtually at the same time in Baytown! Yikes!

Here's his plan: He still plans on attending Roundtable, but will first stop by the troop meeting to discuss a special topic that must be addressed this week. The church pastor, Pastor Cortinas, has scheduled a meeting early next week to review which units are meeting at the church and when, plus their needs and the church's expectations. At this time, there is another pack and troop aside from the (3) 512 units that are meeting there. As many of you know, the topic of changing meeting nights from Thursday night to another night of the week has arisen a couple of times this last year. Those times resulted in no change due to many factors. In the last couple of months, a few members have asked to review the topic again since it seems that the timing is good for various opportunities. Please be prepared to discuss this specific topic at the beginning of tomorrow night's meeting.

Also, on a separate note, the Boy Scouts voiced their concerns to Isaac that they are not "in the loop" on weekly messages and advance information. If possible, please have them read the e-mail bulletins and remind them to check the blog on a weekly basis.

Thank you & Have a blessed day,
Veronica Tijerina

There are summer camp pictures at the bottom of the blog. Thank you Mr. Gene for taking the pictures and sharing. I will change them out each week.
Last week we had a meeting on Friday for the final merit badge work and ranks. Only one boy scout attended and a few adult members - that's not good. It's time for everyone to put boy scout meetings back in their calendars and also always let the Scoutmaster and the SPL know if you are not able to make the meetings. The Scoutmaster had his agenda of things to discuss so he'll tell you about it later.

We have not heard back from all boy scouts if they are attending the Court of Honor. We need you to let me know so everyone can plan the best they can. Some church guests have let me know they are coming, so please be ready to show them our best troop possible.

After the Court of Honor we will be having regular meetings again on Thursdays at 6:30 PM.

It's been a great summer, but now it's back to school and scouting.

A word from the Scoutmaster

The troop will not meet on every Thursday during July and August. We currently are planning on meeting on Saturday, July 18 at Brazos Bend State Park for day long activities. This may be the only meeting we have during the month of July. I will speak to our Assistant Scoutmasters and develop a plan for the activies at Brazos Bend.

For August, we have scheduled the Court of Honor for Thursday, August 20. We will talk more about this over the next couple of weeks.

Please complete any merit badges and/or rank achievements so that we can plan our Scoutmaster conferences and Board of Reviews well in advance of our Court of Honor.

A SCOUT IS REVERENT - RELIGIOUS KNOT

Religious Emblems for Boy Scouts,Varsity Scouts,Venturers, and Explorers

(For information go to: http://www.usscouts.org/, Advancement, Religious)

"A Scout is Reverent." All Scouts show this by being faithful in their duty to God. Some go further and give special service. This can qualify them for a religious emblem. Such an emblem is not a Scouting award. It is conferred on a Scout by his religious leader. Each faith has its own requirements for earning its emblem. Listed on the web link are the BOY SCOUT and VARSITY SCOUT emblems and where to find out about them. Before writing or visiting your local council service center, check with your religious leader.
(Unless indicated otherwise, awards listed may be earned by both Boy Scouts and Varsity Scouts.) Older Boy Scouts of Varsity Scout age (over 14), Venturers, and Sea Scouts (and in some cases, Explorers) are eligible for any awards that Varsity Scouts may earn.

PRAY FOR OUR FAMILIES
